New UE5 Game Aims to Capture the Scare Experience of 90s Found Footage Horror

Unreal Engine 5 is once again being highlighted in another realistic first-person title with upcoming horror game Don’t Scream. Currently listed as Early Access with currently no release date aside from 2023, Don’t Scream literally takes the title of the game as its primary game mechanic.

Gameplay trailer for Don’t Scream shows 90s found footage visuals set in an isolated woods as the main location. The game goes from late evening to late night where the setting gets progressively gets darker and darker, limiting the player’s vision. As with every horror game, the game is designed to be a jump scare challenge and the microphone requirement is the game’s way of knowing if you just pissed your pants or ran away screaming.

Unreal Engine 5 has become the playground of indie devs and young developers into creating these new first-person experiences like Don’t Scream. One of the earliest viral videos utilizing Unreal Engine 5 and its incredible visual realism was Unrecord, a first-person shooter leveraging the same visuals which sparked a huge uproar on the realism of the visuals and can be pinpointed as one of the main driving force in these genre of games.

Don’t Scream has put out a call for content creators for a private demo of the game while the Steam page only has the game for wishlisting currently.
