Sociable Soccer, the arcade-style football series created by Sensible Soccer designer Jon Hare, is finally coming to PC and consoles.

The game was originally released on early access on Steam in 2017, but was pulled from the store after a deal was signed to make the series an Apple Arcade exclusive in November 2019.

However, this exclusivity period has ended and the game’s latest instalment, Sociable Soccer 24, will be released digitally on Switch and PC (via Steam) on November 16.

This will then be followed by PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and Xbox One versions, plus physical releases on all formats, in the first quarter of 2024.

The latest entry will also be the first to feature an official FIFPRO licence, meaning the game will contain more than 10,000 licensed player names.

“This partnership with FIFPRO makes Sociable Soccer 24 the only FIFPRO-licensed arcade action football game currently available on the market for PC and console,” developer Tower Studios says.

Sensible Soccer and its sequel Sensible World of Soccer are widely regarded by football fans as among the greatest football games ever, thanks to their fast-paced arcade style gameplay.

Sensible Soccer creator Hare first started working on Sociable Soccer in 2008, then in 2015 a Kickstarter campaign was launched, which was ultimately unsuccessful.

“We decided on a price of £300,000,” Hare previously told VGC in an interview in 2021. “Which in retrospect was much too low, but actually much too high for Kickstarter. We realised after a week that we simply weren’t going to reach the target. So, we just pulled the Kickstarter, but decided to keep on developing.”

Following today’s news, Hare said: “There have been so many people involved in the Sociable Soccer journey so far, it has felt like an epic quest.

“It is particularly satisfying to finally deliver the PC and console versions we promised eight years ago and I am delighted to say that all people who paid for the Steam Early Access version will get it for free.

“Sociable Soccer 24 represents a very significant staging point in the Sociable Soccer journey so far, and we would like to thank all of our partners that have joined us on the way, including recent arrivals FIFPRO and its entourage of 10,000 stars who have come to join the party.”
