Fresh from New York Comic Con, it was announced during the Final Fantasy Rebirth panel that Matthew Mercer will be the voice of Vincent Valentine in the game. Mercer has an extensive résumé for his voice work and while Vincent Valentine has been done before in other games and in Advent Children, the FF7 remake team has been very open in recasting characters.

Matthew Mercer is currently most well known for his game roles as Cassidy (formerly McCree) in Overwatch as well as Yusuke Kitagawa in Persona 5/Persona 5 Royale and other spin-offs. Mercer also has done voice work for anime and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is an important highlight in his career.
Mercer reveals in his TwitterX that he auditioned for this role 2 years ago and is gushing to have been able to announce it today . Matthew Mercer was booked as the host of the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth panel at New York Comic Con where he also made the reveal.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is scheduled to released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive on February 29, 2024.
